Attention lovers of sweet, clean, and elegant coffees! The Fully Washed lot from Finca Otocani in Peru is here.
About the Region
Finca Otocani is located in the Challabamba area of the Cusco region in Peru — one of the best terroirs in the country. Peru is the largest exporter of organic Arabica in the world, and thanks to its high altitudes and fertile soil, amazing microlots of top quality are produced here. Coffee cultivation has a rich history in this region. Agricultural land was divided among local farmers after the departure of European owners, creating a network of small producers. Most of them process coffee directly on their farms using traditional methods: fully washed, fermented, and dried on raised beds or in parabolic greenhouses. This produces clean, complex, and highly consistent cups.
About the Farm
Finca Otocani is owned by the Lizaraso family, who have been cultivating coffee in this area for over 50 years. Despite the gradual division of land, the family remains united and continues to work together on the shared plantation. The younger generation has honored tradition while introducing innovations — they renewed old coffee trees and planted new varieties such as Geisha and Maragogype, raising the quality even higher. During harvest, the entire family, consisting of 35–40 members, moves from parcel to parcel, handpicking only perfectly ripe cherries. These are then pulped and fermented on the farm for about 16 hours, followed by drying on wooden raised beds for approximately 18 days. The Valle Inca cooperative, founded in 2015 by local coffee enthusiast Jose Prudencio, plays a significant role in the region. His goal was to improve conditions for farmers after the collapse of the large COCLA cooperative. Thanks to Valle Inca, over 400 producers now receive fair prices, can invest in their farms, and significantly improve the quality of their coffee.
