Kenya Ngorano Washed offers expressive notes of blackberry, cranberry and white tea, thanks to carefully selected ripe cherries, traditional washed processing and meticulous attention throughout the processing stages.
Flavor and brewing
Kenya Ngorano Washed stands out with pronounced fruitiness, freshness and an elegant structure. In the cup, juicy blackberry notes are complemented by fresh cranberry and delicate white tea. The fruity sweetness combines with a pleasant brightness and a light, clean finish, giving the coffee a lively yet refined character.
Blackberry brings a more expressive and deeper fruit character to the cup, while cranberry adds freshness and a gentle tartness. White tea then softens the profile and gives it lightness, clarity and a long, elegant finish. The result is a layered coffee with pronounced fruitiness and a pleasantly vibrant character.
We recommend brewing it primarily as a filter coffee, where its clarity, fruity freshness and delicate tea-like notes can shine. A slower and gentle extraction gives the individual flavor layers enough room to develop and allows the coffee to fully express its complex character.
About Ngorano Coffee
This coffee comes from Ngorano Coffee Washing Station, located in the Kirinyaga region on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. Ngorano is part of the Mutira Cooperative Society, which works with smallholder farmers cultivating coffee on small family farms.
Local farmers often grow coffee alongside tea and other food crops intended for household use. Coffee is therefore part of small family farms where its cultivation takes place alongside other agricultural activities. This type of farming is characteristic of the Kirinyaga area and closely connects coffee production with the everyday lives of local farming communities.
The Kirinyaga region lies on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya and is one of Kenya's important areas for specialty coffee production. The coffee for this lot is grown at an altitude of approximately 1,630 meters above sea level, creating favorable conditions for the development of a distinctive and complex flavor profile.
Ngorano Washing Station works with coffee from smallholder farmers and places strong emphasis on selecting high-quality ripe cherries. Throughout the processing, individual lots are kept separate, helping maintain traceability and preserve the distinct character of each harvest.
SL28, SL34 and Batian varieties
This lot consists primarily of the SL28 and SL34 varieties, complemented by Batian. SL28 and SL34 are characteristic Kenyan varieties that have long been associated with the production of expressive and aromatic coffees.
Combined with the conditions of the Kirinyaga region and careful processing, these varieties provide an excellent foundation for developing pronounced fruitiness and a vibrant character. The combination of quality varieties, high elevation and thoughtful processing contributes to a clean and complex cup.
Washed processing
This coffee was processed using the Washed method. After harvesting, only ripe coffee cherries are delivered to the washing station, where they are pulped to remove the fruit. The beans then undergo approximately 24 hours of dry fermentation, which helps break down the remaining mucilage surrounding the coffee beans.
After fermentation, the coffee is washed and graded by density. This step separates the beans according to their density and quality, contributing to greater consistency within the finished lot. Washed processing also allows the natural character of the coffee to come through more clearly, giving space to its delicate fruity and tea-like notes.
After washing, the coffee is dried on raised drying beds until it reaches approximately 11% moisture. It is then rested before milling and preparation for export. Throughout the process, individual lots are kept separate to maintain traceability and preserve the character of the specific harvest.
The result is a clean and distinctly fruity Kenyan coffee with an elegant character. The cup combines the juiciness of blackberry, the freshness of cranberry and the delicate character of white tea. Thanks to the washed processing, the coffee has a very clean and transparent profile, allowing its fruity and tea-like notes to develop gradually into a pleasantly bright and lingering finish.
