An exceptional coffee for lovers of elegant, sweet and complex flavors. Guatemala Molino Washed offers a harmonious combination of white grape, raisin and hazelnut notes, bringing together fresh fruitiness with pleasant sweetness and a delicate nutty character.

Flavor and brewing

Guatemala Molino Washed stands out with a balanced and complex flavor profile that combines fresh fruitiness with sweeter and deeper notes. In the cup, delicate and juicy white grape notes are followed by the sweet character of raisins and a pleasant nutty finish reminiscent of hazelnuts. This combination gives the coffee an elegant, clean and expressive character.

The fruity character brings freshness and liveliness to the cup, while the raisin notes add a deeper sweetness and the hazelnut character provides pleasant depth and warmth. The result is a harmonious coffee with a layered profile that will appeal both to lovers of fruitier coffees and to those who prefer sweeter, nutty flavors.

About Molino Coffee

This coffee comes from smallholder farms in the Santa Bárbara area of Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala's most renowned coffee-growing regions. The Molino lot is made up of coffees from several small farmers who cultivate coffee in this mountainous area and process their harvest using traditional methods.

Santa Bárbara lies at the foothills of the Cuchumatanes, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. The landscape is strongly mountainous, with coffee grown at high elevations. The combination of limestone soils, high altitude and a cooler mountain climate creates favorable conditions for slower coffee cherry maturation.

This slower maturation allows the cherries to gradually develop more complex flavor and aromatic characteristics. The Santa Bárbara area is therefore known for producing coffees with bright acidity, pleasant freshness and excellent cup quality. Coffees from this region often benefit from a distinctive balance between lively fruitiness and pronounced sweetness.

Most local producers work on very small farms, often cultivating less than one hectare of coffee. Their harvests are processed using traditional methods before individual lots from different smallholders are combined for export. Despite the small scale of individual farms, the coffees retain the character of the environment in which they are grown.

Coffee farming in Santa Bárbara is also deeply rooted in local indigenous communities. Generations of families continue to cultivate coffee on small farms, making coffee an important part not only of the region's agriculture but also of its local traditions and way of life.

Growing conditions in Huehuetenango

The coffee for this lot is grown at a high elevation of approximately 1,900–2,200 meters above sea level. The altitude, combined with the cooler mountain climate, slows the maturation of the coffee cherries and creates favorable conditions for the development of a complex flavor profile.

The local limestone soils and mountainous terrain also play an important role in the character of coffees from the region. The combination of soil, altitude and climate is one of the reasons why Huehuetenango is considered one of Guatemala's most important regions for specialty coffee production.

Washed processing

This coffee was processed using the Washed method. With this processing technique, the coffee bean is separated from the fruit after harvesting, and the remaining mucilage is removed before drying. Washed processing allows the natural characteristics of the coffee bean to come through with greater clarity and transparency.

Coffees processed using this method typically have a clean and transparent cup profile, giving individual fruit, sweetness and nutty characteristics plenty of room to express themselves. In this Guatemalan lot, the result is an elegant combination of white grape, raisin and hazelnut notes.

The lot consists of the Caturra and Bourbon varieties, both of which are cultivated in the region and form part of its coffee-growing tradition. Combined with the high elevation, cool mountain climate and washed processing, these varieties contribute to a clean, balanced and complex cup profile.

The result is an elegant Guatemalan coffee that brings together the freshness of white grapes, the sweetness of raisins and the gentle, warming character of hazelnuts. Its complexity gradually unfolds in the cup, offering a pleasant balance between fruitiness, sweetness and a smooth nutty finish.
